Statue de David

Bronze sculptor of David with his right foot on Goliath's head and Goliath's sword in his right hand.. Last work of Jean-Etienne Chaponnière, the sculpture “David vainqueur de Goliath” (“David defeats Goliath”), also refered as “David remerciant Dieu d’avoir frappé Goliath” (“David thanks God for having hit Goliath”) - obtained the gold medal at the Salon de Paris in 1835. On 12 March 1836 was announced in the Journal de Genève that 5800 Francs was raised by public subscription, sufficient enough to have cast this statue. In 1853 the statue was replaced in the Parc des Bastions.
